A How-To Guide for Replacing Your Wear Parts: Replacing the Bearings

Note: Always replace bearings in pairs.

  1. Open the mill hood.
  2. Remove the housing for the first bearing.
  3. Clean the bearing pad for the housing.
  4. Clean and deburr the base for the bearing housing.
  5. Install the new assembly and bolts. Leave the mounting bolts loose.
  6. Align the housing parallel to edge of the bearing pad.
  7. Using a mallet, hit the top of the housing to seat it completely.
  8. Center the rotor to maintain an equal distance between end discs and sidewalls.
  9. Position the rotor to allow about 3/8 in. between hammers and screen or grate.
  10. At the housing, tighten each mounting bolt.
    1. As you tighten the first bolt, a gap opens between the housing and pad on the loose side of the housing.
  11. Shim the gap.
  12. Tighten the remaining bolt.
  13. Repeat for the second bearing.
